Western provinces in search of opportunities
It’s no news that young skilled workers are flocking to the Western provinces in search of opportunities. But a new study found a link between high employment rates and private sector investment.
The report by the Fraser Institute says that jobs are booming in Alberta and Saskatchewan, while Quebec, Ontario and Atlantic provinces are losing young workers.
“Going west is once again the mantra of a new generation. For young adults, these two provinces have employment levels and employment growth rates that are above the national average,” Mark Milke, the report’s author wrote.
Milke looked at the movements and economic indicators for two age groups: 15-24 year olds, and 24-34 year olds. It found that the full-time employment rates for them have increased over 10 years in the west.
